Final Project
Week 10 - Week 14For the final project, we were given a choice to choose to either do a tunnel book or a interactive web comic. In the end, I choose to do webcomic as this I wanted to learn to do interactive web comic.
The rules for the webcomic were almost the same as the last project. We were given the freedom to choose to illustrate based on lyrics or poems, and we had to include 3 transitions that we learned before into the webcomic.
When I first started on the project, I decided that I would go with a Japanese song that I really liked. It's called "Departure". I picked part of the lyrics that I like and illustrate it, and this is the lyrics that I picked:
And that is how I find myself all alone
What was it you told me back then?
The words that won't reach me dance in the air
And though I know better, today too I end up
Wishing for things that won't come true
Don't let me go
Just squeeze my hand tight
And tell me we'll go on together
Your hand in mine was warm
And gentle
That's how you always anger me
And make me cry in the end
Won't you laugh for me just one more time?
Before your warmth vanishes
Embrace me
After picking the lyrics, I started writing down how I wanted each frame to look.
After writing down everything, I started sketching it out.
Since this is a sad romance song, when I started to think how its going to go, I thought about a girl standing alone in a dark place. My friend then suggests me to dress the girl in a wedding gown to make it look more "sad", and I took his advise and decided to dress the woman in a wedding gown.

After I did my sketches, I move on to illustrating in Photoshop. After having the experience from the previous projects, I now know how to better use the software as well as the wacom to illustrate digitally. I didn't take as long time as before to complete my work.

Adding shadows and highlights
Doing background
After finish digitizing it in Photoshop, it's time to take it to Madefire. Before I began to explore the app, I've already heard that it's hard to use and it has a lot of problems. I was scared that I couldn't do it, but luckily I got help from YouTube and my friends.
To be honest, madefire is not an easy program to use. The user interface is quite complicated, and the program keeps having error for some reasons. I had to launch the program in incognito window in order to make it work. At first, I couldn't really understand how it work and I keep messing things up, but after several trials, things went much smoother and it wasn't as hard to animate in the program as I thought.

After weeks of sleepless nights, this is my final outcome:
Reflection:
To be honest, this project is the one that I'm most happy of so far. I poured my heart and soul to try to make it look as nice as possible. I went from knowing nothing about illustration, to being able to illustrate digitally and even creating an interactive comic. I'm grateful and thankful to my lecturers, Mr. Hafiz and Mr. Kannan for the advises that they gave to help me improve my work. I still have a long way to go though, but I'm glad that I'm able to learn so much in just 3 months.
So this is my final project! Thanks for watching!
